Based on the energy balance analysis of the cooling coil, demonstrates that the cooling coil load of stratified air conditioning system is inversely proportional to the exhaust air temperature. Separately setting the return and exhaust grilles is beneficial to increase the exhaust air temperature and expel more convective heat generated in the space to the outside directly, which will further reduce the cooling coil load and promote the energy saving potential of the stratified air conditioning system. Experimentally investigates the influence of return grille heights on the performance of stratified air conditioning systems in a climate chamber. The results indicate that when the air returning height decreases from ceiling level to the lower occupied zone, the environmental thermal comfort deteriorates slightly, and the air temperature difference between head and foot increases slightly. Because the return air temperature decreases and the exhaust air temperature increases, the energy saving potential is significantly improved.
